Tips For Reducing Electricity Bills

Website Editor

You’d have to be living on another planet not to be aware of the hike in energy prices this year. With this in mind you may be looking for some tips for reducing your electricity bills.

We’re always eager to help those of you concerned about energy prices, wanting to know how you can save on energy bills this year. Nobody wants to be shocked by their utility bills, but the good news is that there are steps you can take to make sure your electricity bill won’t be through the roof. And it doesn’t have to be about making changes that will impact too heavily on your lifestyle either.

How many devices do you have switched almost permanently?

Is it really necessary to have them on all the time? Chargers are a big culprit here as are digital boxes, gaming consoles and appliances. Unplugging those that don’t need to be on all the time will help cut back on the use of unnecessary power.

Switch lights off when not in use.

Lights are oftentimes left on indefinitely, even when there’s no one in the room. We all need sufficient light to read, watch TV and move around safely, but there are bound to be some lights that simply don’t need to be on all the time.

Overhead lighting that’s not needed for anything, but remains switched on can work out expensive in the long–run. Using lamps that give you more direct light is helpful, but always to remember to switch off when not in use.

LED lights are a great alternative to the conventional light bulbs we’ve been used to. They will also save you money over time because they last much longer, using well over 50% less energy than incandescent ones.

Is your home extremely cold?

Could it be that your current insulation is inadequate to the task? Although insulation is an expense, the investment long-term will be worth it as you save on energy bills. Once you’ve dealt with any drafty windows and doors, and checked out wall insulation you could be looking at some really good savings.

How energy efficient are your electrical appliances?

Try to research energy efficient appliances, they’re usually rated so you can tell which ones are more energy efficient, and this could also give you significant savings on your electricity bills.

Don’t use your dishwashers or washing machines unless they’re full.

Using them when they’re only half full will still use up a lot of energy, so why not wait until you have enough to fill them up? That way you use them less often and it’s more cost efficient.

Keep your thermostats at consistent temperatures rather than constantly changing them.

It’s tempting to do that, especially when we live in a country where the weather changes so often. You could invest in a smart thermostat, which will adjust the temperature so it’s slightly lower when you’re away, and then at the same consistent temperature when you’re at home.
